    Bedok 85 satay bee hoon stall sees long queues after closure notice

    Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Shi Wei Da Satay Bee Hoon, announced on Tuesday (April 23) that it would shuttering after 30 long years, with its last day on April 30.

    Reporters from 8world and Shin Min Daily News who went down to the stall, located at Bedok 85 Market on Friday observed queues of about 40 people.

    The latter sells Teochew porridge in the afternoon, before Kim Song serves up his satay bee hoon from 3pm each day, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

    Patrons interviewed by Shin Min stated that his satay bee hoon is not only tasty but also affordable.

    Taylor Swift has done it in 11 years and 6 months," the Official Charts Company said.

    Poets also topped charts in Australia and is set to do the same in the US.

    Swift announced Poets in February at the Grammys, where she won a fourth Album of the Year prize for her 2022 record Midnights.

    One lucky fan in China had an unforgettable experience when Mandopop star Jay Chou offered her his jacket during his concert last Sunday (April 21).

    While concertgoers were each given a raincoat which was placed at their seats, a fan realised that her raincoat was torn.

    When the fan said that she didn't have a raincoat, Jay replied: "You don't have a raincoat?

    In a Douyin video after the concert, the fan exclaimed excitedly: "Jay Chou gave me his jacket!".

    VENICE - Pope Francis travels to Venice on April 28 for his first trip of the year, testing his mobility and resilience after a number of health scares in recent months.

    He will fly back home in his distinctive white helicopter after a visit set to last just over six hours.

    The Venice trip is the first of four planned inside Italy in the next three months.

    Pope Francis spoke of his fears and hopes for AI in January, warning of "cognitive pollution" that can distort reality, promote false narratives and imprison people in ideological echo chambers.

    K-pop giant Hybe shares take another hit as dispute with NewJeans label drags on

    SEOUL - A South Korean music executive credited with creating popular K-pop group NewJeans denied allegations that she was trying to break her label away from Hybe, home to global sensation BTS, sending the K-pop giant's shares tumbling on Friday (April 26).

    Hybe shares closed 4.95 per cent down on Friday, while the benchmark Kospi index ended more than one per cent higher.

    Min and other top executives own a 20 per cent stake in Ador while Hybe owns an 80 per cent stake.

    The dispute is the latest to hit South Korea's lucrative K-pop industry.

    Apple renews talks with OpenAI for iPhone generative AI features: Bloomberg

    Apple Inc has renewed discussions with OpenAI about using the startup's generative AI technology to power some new features being introduced in the iPhone later this year, Bloomberg News reported on Friday (April 26).

    Bloomberg reported last month that Apple was in talks to license Google's Gemini chatbot for new iPhone features.

    Apple has been slower in rolling out generative AI, which can generate human-like responses to written prompts, than rivals such as Microsoft and Google, which are weaving them into products.

    Apple CEO Tim Cook said in February that the company was investing "significantly" in generative AI and would reveal more about its plans to put the technology to use later this year.

    SYDNEY - Violence against women is an "epidemic" in Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on April 27, as thousands attended rallies in Sydney and other major Australian cities urging tougher laws on gendered violence.

    The rallies were spurred by a wave of violence against women that the government says has seen a woman killed every four days in 2024.

    Protesters demanding stronger criminal laws gathered in Sydney, capital of New South Wales state, for a rally and then a march that closed city streets.

    Similar protests were scheduled across the weekend in state capitals Perth, Western Australia; Melbourne, Victoria; Hobart, Tasmania; and Brisbane, Queensland.
